Many, many Davis, California, parents and their children will fondly remember the author, Jeri Howitt, as the Founder/Director of Partners in Learning for over twenty years. Others know her in her current role as the Director of Stories on Stage Davis, the successful event that presents established and emerging authors, then adds magical pixie dust by having selections read by professional actors while sitting in the Pence Art Gallery surrounded by wonderful art.
The author, Jeri Howitt, came to writing long after she fell in love with mathematics and chemistry—oh indeed, there is joy and beauty in these subjects. It was through her working at Partners in Learning that she noticed that so many bright students had a fear of writing. She became intrigued by the problem and developed regular writing classes for third graders through high school students. Even adult demanded their own classes. Along the way, Jeri Howitt got captured by the urge to write.
Initially, she started with children’s stories, but soon branched out into stories more suitable for adults. Writing children’s stories is lots more fun though!
